Aimpoint & Scope Mounts

Just another WordPress site

When looking it over I noticed something that looked odd on the front side lens area. It looked as if some purple hued gasket was amiss or maybe some sealant had run on the inside of the lens area. I have looked at another EOTech Eotech 512 locally and it did not look like mine. I am just making sure I don’t have a flawed unit that I need to send back. Please review the picuters as I am sure I butchered my explanation of my issue. If you have an EOTech please look at it for me and report back your findings.

These were rev F units and not battery failures. Leaving the batteries out overnight ‘reset’ the Eotechs. BSW Hokie 2/8/2008 2:25:17 PM I can’t think of a single reason not to own an Aimpoint. I didn’t include cost because that logic also applies to virtually everything between the muzzle & the buttplate. ChampFerguson2/8/2008 3:10:29 PM It is a personal preference. Both are quality products. I know people that have sold their Aimpoints to buy Eotechs and I know people who have sold their Eotechs to buy Aimpoints. You really should try each out before deciding which is right for you.

Make sure you take the entire bolt apart once and awhile and actually clean out the channel and check for rust. Assuming you do that and don’t regularly shoot corrosive ammo through it without totally cleaning it out… you’ll be fine.

Just re what can happen when you drop the bolt on any gun and have it pointed downrange or into the dirt.

I’ve installed murray’s pins…Seems like a good idea but still won’t prevent it from happening if the the bolt gets filled with rust.

IMO and experience no mod is necessary. Proper and regular maintenance is all that is required. It has been my experience that SKS`s that were recently packed in grease were the worst culprit for slam fires. Here is where a complete bolt disassembly can help along with a good soaking in gasoline or kerosene and a rubdown with good ol` Dawn dish soap. Then rinse thoroghly, wipe dry, and immediately apply some Break Free CLP or any other higher grade gun oil. Happy Shots

The Murray firing pin actually looks a lot like the original SKS Rifle Stocks firing pin design.

I have a YHM angle mount, I’ll have to try it on my A2 carbine with the Surefire and Dieter.
I used it before with the TD tape switch rail cover but really didn’t find it to give me any advantage over the 9:00 mounting.

Thanks for the pics. Is the SureFire held in with the throw lever or the thumb screws? Which Yankee Hill angle Scope Mount did you use? Is it the 3 or 5 slot?

No problem.

It’s a three slot. I got it with some other stuff, thinking I’d never really attach it.
It surprised me how how much I like it…The push-button lines up with the tip of my thumb perfectly and casts less of a barrel shadow with it further form the rail.

also,
the light has an integral ARMS throw lever.

Here it is for a lefty like me, works really well and the ARMS throw lever (underneath) barely clears the Dieter grip by -0.25mm.
I got this 5 slot angle Scope Mount and thumbscrews from Brightflashlights when I was experimenting around light and tape switch positions.
I finally came into the 21st century (difficult for an old guy like me) and got a verticle grip for the carbine from Rusty at DSGArms.com.
With the light set pretty far back, it’s really easy to strobe the light with your thumb while maintaining controll of the weapon.
Many thanks mfingar, I had forgotten about even having the angle mount.

I could just have easily titled this article “the most accurate .308 caliber out-of-the-box rifle ever” and simply ended it here. I deal with accuracy all day.

I do have them in my SKS’s Even without the spring installed, they offer a reduced chance of a slam fire. Instead of a conical shaped firing pin head pushing up into a conical shaped hole, the pin is just round at the end and never contacts the conical hole in the bolt.

The one real problem with them is that if you have a pierced primer the flame entering the bolt through the hole will take the temper out of the spring and render it useless. Even with the spring in this condition the pin still functions properly. Mr. Murray has also discovered what seems to be the cause of a lot of these pierced primer incidents. On a lot of SKS Rifle Stocks bolts, there seems to be a burr or raised edge around the firing pin hole on the face of the bolt. By removing this burr it stopped my SKS’s from having any more pierced primers.
